CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

As a North Carolina brand, I know first hand the critical need to maintain the skill set of fashion and sewing in our state and the US.  I'm excited to share my expertise through a series of classes, starting with three one night workshops + Fashion School 101, a six-week class.   TAUGHT LIVE AND ONLINE, safely from the comfort of your home.  Email with questions (info@adalei.com) or register to reserve your spot in the links below.

Fashion School 101

Learn the artisanal skill of sewing from a Raleigh fashion designer in Fashion School 101.  Students will complete projects of their choice in the class, however, the focus will be on learning techniques.  This 6 week class is for beginners (or slightly experienced sewers) who want to take their talents to the next level.  Students should own a sewing machine and have basic working knowledge of their machine prior to class.
The class will cover:  learning sewing terminology and equipment, patterns and layout, understanding a dress form,  measuring for best fit,  choosing fabrics, pressing techniques, basic garment construction, and a mini course in couture hand stitches.  Students will leave the class with a notebook of sewing and stitch references for their personal library.  A variety of industrial sewing machines will also be introduced.
Course taught via Zoom.

Styling the Home 101 ~ Pillows

Pillows are the easiest and least expensive way to style your home.  In this one night workshop, you will design and create pillows from a variety of sizes and fabrics for either indoor or outdoor use.  Student will need to own a sewing machine and have basic sewing skills.  We will cover the skills of creating a basic pattern, matching fabric prints, applying trims, creating cording, and inserting a zipper.
Course taught via Zoom.

Introduction to the Dress Form

Have you always wanted to understand the dress form and be able to create custom fit garments?  In this one night workshop, you will learn the measurements of a dress form and how they correspond to a pattern for best fit, along with how to pad a dress form for a custom fit.
Instructor will be demonstrating on an AlvaForm (Alvanon) in regular and 1/2 scale.  An antique Wolf form will be used to explain ho any form can be padded and customized.  Students will need a tape measure and to wear a form fitting outfit to measure their own body.  Your own dress form is recommended for this class, but not required.  If you plan to pad your form during the class, contact instructor for supplies you will need.
Course taught via Zoom.

Gentlemen who Sew

Being a "sewist" isn't just for the ladies.  This beginning sewing class will cover the basic skills of sewing and seam finishes for men's accessories.  Students should own a sewing machine and have a basic working knowledge of their machine prior to class.
In this one night workshop, design and create your own work or chef's apron and a simple tote bag.  Students will learn simple techniques in applying various pockets to customize their projects and apply rivets and simple canvas or leather straps.
Instruction will email students prior to class to discuss their custom design ideas and materials needed for the workshop.  Links and suggestions for fabrics such as waxed canvas and duck cloth will be shared.  A basic pattern will be emailed to you prior to class.  Although called "Gentlemen Who Sew", this is a great class for anyone interested in making men's accessories.
Course taught via Zoom.
