BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR MEANS PIVOTING AND STAYING FOCUSED ON THE VISION
ADALEI was launched in 2018 as a small clothing collection and dream of mine after interning for Patsy Aiken Designs during college. My adult life had been a combination of design for interiors, along with pursuing my hobbies in photography, art, and creating with fabric.
After two years of new collections and beautiful photo shoots, the brand was poised to be picked up by several retailers. Buyer meetings were scheduled at the exact time . . Covid hit. Unfortunately, many of my fabric vendors closed during the pandemic which made staying in the "fashion lane" even more challenging. I took this as a sign to pivot the business and opened my workroom to sewing for other brands and retailers around the country.
"To be a North Carolinian means to cherish the craft of being an artisan - making things of beauty or usefulness with your hands, one by one. That is the focus of my work."
I'm thrilled to finally be back with a collection of my own and my vision for a beautiful home. Many of the designs are limited edition or one-of-a-kind. ADALEI isn't meant for the masses. It is a small curated brand that allows me to continually create new product.
Texture, nubby fabrics, one off designs that no one else can buy, creates a bespoke vision I plan to expand through 2026.
I've also been training in upholstery and thrilled to partner with a 3rd generation frame maker to start offering small furniture pieces.
"I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University and background in fashion and interior design. I am influenced by art, architecture and the history of textiles to create designs with clean lines and beautiful styling. I share my passion for photography, by creating pictures and content that hopefully tell a story of a small design studio making product here in the US.
and if you were wondering . . . . . . ADALÉI is pronounced "Add-uh-lee".
