Black and White Study No. 1

Black and White Study No. 1 is a unique abstract combining dry pigment and wax exploring shape and negative space.  Pairs with Black and White Study No. 2 for a wall grouping or two pieces on a long console table.

The Study No. pieces are where I experiment through encaustic painting.  Using dry pigments, dammar resin, and beeswax, I create my own colors and medium for each piece.  A combination of heated metal tools, brushes, and a mini blow torch, create layer upon layer of wax and color, developing the composition, form, and texture.
