Encaustic painting on cradled wood panel
Tabletop, easel, or bookshelf
Finished board edges — no frame required
8" h x 10" w, 7/8" d
Have you noticed how water never finds stillness? Even in calmest moments, there is movement. Pan Pastels pigments applied to a fused wax surface allow color to travel in ways it only can in encaustic. Where the wax decides.
Textile Pairing: "Still Water Pillow" — designed together, made to live together.
In art school our studies are categorized. In the real world art moves across mediums with no boundaries.
Color references are available upon request — a close match to the work itself from Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams.
Questions about scale, placement, or how a piece will live in your space? A focused conversation is always available.
In-person previews are available Tuesdays and Thursdays for all encaustic art by appointment — we meet at Lafayette Village or Wakefield Country Club in North Raleigh. For works over $500, a 48-hour in-home viewing is available with a 50% refundable deposit and simple loan agreement.
All sales are final. Original works are one-of-a-kind and sold as shown.
Shipping is complimentary for all art. Ships in 7 to 10 days.

IT BEGINS WITH 3 MATERIALS ~ WAX + RESIN + DRY PIGMENTS
Nature is the first artist. These works transform organic elements into layered encaustic compositions — where earth becomes art.
These are not painted surfaces — they are fused ones. Built from wax, resin, earth pigments, and the heat that makes them one.
Purified beeswax, crushed damar resin, and pigments — some sourced from our own Blue Ridge Mountains — combined into a single molten medium.
Nature offered the language. The work is the translation.
THE SURFACE IS NEVER WHAT IT APPEARS
The work is built in layers — sometimes ten, or more. Each one fused by heat, then scraped back to reveal what lies beneath.
The result is a luminosity no other medium produces: transparency and opacity in the same surface, color held inside wax, light moving through rather than reflecting off.
The wax cures over months to a permanent finish. No glass required. The work is meant to be seen as it is — organic, raw, alive.
To receive what the earth offers and return it as something considered. That is the art of encaustic.
This piece was designed alongside a studio textile.

No. Encaustic works on cradled birch panel are complete as made.
I am currently working with a Raleigh craftsman to design and fabricate several display options, which are available this fall.
Art purchase is a final sale and not exchangeable.
This protects the inherent nature of the work from damage for the final buyer.
Complimentary shipping on all art.
Images are photographed to accurately represent each piece. Studio and editorial images may reflect varied lighting conditions. As with all digital displays, screen calibration may affect color perception — the original will reflect the colors shown in the primary product images.
Encaustic is one of the oldest painting techniques - beeswax, damar resin, dry earth pigments, and heat. Each layer is fused before the next is applied. The surface that results is luminous, archival, and unlike anything made with paint.
Some pieces also incorporate pan pastels fused into the final layer for added depth and dimension.
